How the project looks like ...
At the safe place of Tone La Maji - meaning Drop of Water - we intend to enlarge the capacity of the shelter to accommodate a maximum of 60 vulnerable children and youth aged 6-16 years before the end of 2016; offering them a place with a family like atmosphere, facilitating the acquisition of life skills, taking care of their basic education and help them to grow up well and learn to be responsible and accountable citizens in their society. In the home a qualified team of social workers, educators and local support staff will support them. All involved personnel in this project will be selected and supervised by a team of professionals from the Koinonia Community.
Wherever possible the project will be executed in close partnership with other organizations interested in the education and social development of the target group in Nairobi and its suburbs. Before admission in the center, the children will be monitored for a period of a couple of months during which they have to demonstrate a real interest to changing their life for example showing a real desire to attend school, stop abusing drugs and alcohol, respect hygiene rules etc. When they do admit, they will be offered to stay in the center for as long as necessary up to the age of 16 years.
