Special project for a small Poultry / Chicken farm
How we will meet the need
In Tone La Maji rehabilitation centre, we do have a large area of uncultivated land available to build a small poultry farm. We even can enlarge the area in the future to breed also other species of animals like rabbits and probably ducks. Such an initiative will not be only beneficial for the children in the centre but also for many people in the community. The first priority is however to ensure adequate food supply for the centre. A higher production can be sold at the public market in the nearby village since there is always market for white meat. The effect of this will be a more sustainable future for the centre and as a spin-off the option to accept more children in the centre and to give them a better change on a bright future. To fulfill this dream we planned to build (at the current spot) 2 large chicken coops for 80 local breeding hens.
Goals and objectives
The goals and objectives for this project are as follow:
In general: the development a system for breeding poultry to take care for the basic need of the centre plus the option to sell the poultry on the public market to generate an extra source of income for the centre in the long term.
Healthier food supply for the children: the availability of white meat as part of the food supply for the children will help them to become healthier and get the right food diversity.
Education: The need to take care of the poultry will teach children to take responsibility for specific tasks that are assigned to them and will be an important part of their reintegration process in the society.
Community building: At the same time the facility can be a great source of education for youth and community members teaching them self-reliance skills and how to start projects.
It also will provide a platform of maintaining contact with the families of the children and to promote a stable family environment that will guarantee better sustainability prospects to the beneficiaries.
