History
Tone La Maji is operational since 2005 and has been the home to about 60 ex-street children (ranging in age from 8 to 16 years) who attend the local public schools. Due to a lack of funds, Tone La Maji is currently the home of only 20 boys, although many more children are in big need of being taken care of.
Only completely vulnerable children will be taken into the centre when all other alternatives are impossible.
The first step is always to try to reintegrate the children back to their families. Only when there is no other way (as a result of lack of parents, a dysfunctional family, or an unsafe situation for the child) are they admitted in the centre.
In recent years it has built a good relationship of cooperation and collaboration with local branches of the Children's Office and school employees from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, whose local technicians have helped to set up agricultural activities in the centre. Tone La Maji has organized short courses and workshops for young people on activities such as sports, theater and Bible classes, and is equipped to accommodate small groups of young people.
